Manufacture Your Day by UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF LEADERSHIP

Manufacturing Leadership Excellence Coaching

How would you explain the difference between a manager and a leader?

I always say this:

  • Leaders come with or without a title – leadership is the ability to influence people based on your values and beliefs; a leader is a role model and people don’t follow because they have to, they follow because they want to;
  • Managers are getting paid to lead – to lead the way and to lead by example; many rely heavily on their title and the authority that comes with it;

For the past 19+ years, I have served the people in the manufacturing industry. I absolutely love working with people at all levels to help them shift their perspective, develop mental strength, and get better at stress management, emotional control, communication, and leadership.

My goal has always been to become the very best corporate trainer and coach for the manufacturing industry worldwide.

Just recently someone said to me, “Karin, leadership is leadership. What’s the difference between teaching leadership classes in a hospital or in the manufacturing industry?”

Do you believe YOUR audience matters?

Here is my take on it. Yes, the leadership principles are definitely similar. However, the stories that connect me to my manufacturing audience and help me build rapport are very different from those in a hospital setting.

I get results faster because I have earned the right to stand in front of them. They recognize very quickly that I understand their daily challenges and that I know what I am talking about.

How is this relevant to you in your leadership journey?

1. Know Your Audience

If you are not happy with the performance of your team, ask yourself these questions:

  • What are my team members’ hopes, dreams and goals? (what’s important for them)
  • What could they possibly be afraid of? (the “fear factor” stifles productivity)
  • What’s in it for them? (care about them and they will care about business)

2. Build Rapport

Get to know the people who work on your team – know their names, their children’s names, their family situation, their hobbies, their talents, their strengths, and their weaknesses (the more you learn about them, the better it is for everyone involved). Leadership = Influence.

3. Highlight the Importance of Continuous Learning

If people don’t learn anything new, they stop growing and become stagnant in every aspect of their lives. Coaching and training shouldn’t be made available to “fix people”. Its purpose is to help people to become the best they can be.

The fastest way for you to succeed is to help others succeed.

Are you ready to get on the fast track?

Food for Thought:

Leadership and communication skills are skills that can be learned. All it takes is the willingness to get better.
