Manufacturing Values at Work

***I apologize, the link to the YouTube video below was missing. Click on the picture to watch it.***

One of the disadvantages of working for a corporation can be that you work in a bubble and during times of pressure, you can lose sight of core principles in your world. Many people have forgotten about the values they once held. Are you one of them?

It’s Wednesday and it’s time for “Manufacturing Leadership Minute” with Karin.

Values determine what we do with our time and how we evaluate the time we have spent alone, with loved ones or at work.

I know that I live a very healthy lifestyle and this lifestyle influences everything I do. I have learned to put myself on the calendar first and this is the only way to make sure that my health and my well-being are a priority.

Having said this, how many people really focus on making themselves a priority when life is busy with constantly changing demands from different directions?

In times where stress, pressure and lack of time can take over so many people’s lives, I see it as my job to remind my clients about the importance of health.

How can you bring your values to life?

  1. Choose 5 values that are non-negotiable for you: You can use this list if you need some inspiration.
  2. Create statements of how you will live by these values: i.e. If “learning” is one of your values…. How will you demonstrate that you are willing to learn? You can create a statement like “learn faster through feedback” or “personal growth by choosing 1 course a year”. If health is one of your values…. A statement could be “make sure to walk daily” or “mindful lunch away from my desk”.
  3. Learn to say, “No” if your values are not in alignment at work: Your values will help you to set your boundaries.

Time for some self-reflection: Are you happy with the person you have become over the past 5 years? If your answer isn’t a clear “Yes”, I encourage you to gain more clarity on what happened to your intentional growth progress.

Remember, it’s never too late to bring things back on track.

Food for Thought:

When was the last time you thought about your values?
