Manufacture Your Day by SAYING “YES” TO NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Have you ever been presented with a new opportunity and you held yourself back by thinking about what could go wrong?
If this is the case, I will help you to shift your perspective.
I have learned to challenge myself by thinking in terms of what can go right instead of what can go wrong. Especially during uncertain times (Covid-19 was one of them), it is critical to shift our thought process. I truly believe that taking calculated risks will be rewarded in the long run.
Over the past 14 years or so, I have been presented with many opportunities to try something new – to so many, I said “yes” and to some, I had to say “no” (i.e. job offers, not my target market, not my ideal client).
Can you make changes if you feel really down and discouraged? 100%. It is just a choice you have to make. Saying, “Enough is enough” may just do the trick.
I am very adventurous but if I say “yes” to something new, it is always evaluated by the following factors:
- Will I have fun doing it?
- Will I be able to learn something new?
- Is it my target market?
- Can I add tremendous value to the project?
If the answer is “yes” to all these 4 questions, then I will definitely go for it.
Fears such as lack of knowledge or lack of skill will never hold me back because I generate excitement from the unknown.
Here are a few thoughts to overcome the fear of the unknown (also called Xenophobia):
Question your Fear:
Where is the fear coming from? What story are you telling yourself? Are your thoughts about people and situations irrational? How have you successfully coped with uncertainty in the past?
Understand your Fear:
When you want to try something new, that you have never done before, your mind tries to protect you by imagining worst-case scenarios. If you assign a different meaning, it will help you to get through it.
“Fear of the unknown… They are afraid of new ideas and loaded with prejudices, not based upon anything in reality, but based on… If something is new, I reject it immediately because it’s frightening to me.” What they do instead is just stay with the familiar. You know, to me, the most beautiful things in all the universe are the most mysterious.” -Wayne Dyer
You cannot buy courage but you can overcome all the things that hold you back.
Wouldn’t this be a more fulfilling life experience?
Food for Thought:
What would you do if you were not afraid?
