Manufacturing Executive Coaching - No Guilt

Isn’t it true that most of us carry too much guilt?

We can feel guilty about almost anything:

  • being not a good enough parent
  • spending not enough time with family and/or friends
  • eating too much (junk food)
  • drinking too much (alcohol)
  • smoking too much
  • being not further ahead in life
  • spending too much
  • saving too little
  • forgetting to floss
  • taking shortcuts at work
  • being late
  • missing a deadline
  • being not focused enough
  • having not enough discipline to exercise consistently
  • lacking self-discipline
  • saying “no” if we don’t want to do something
  • saying “yes” even though we really want to say “no”
  • being not courageous enough
  • making a mistake
  • looking at the past and thinking about what we “should have” done

This constant feeling of guilt has forced us into a life where we constantly have to feel productive, even when we are not. If we are not productive, we feel guilty again.

How does the feeling of guilt help us to live a happier, healthier and more meaningful life?

There are some employers who make their employees feel guilty for having a personal life. I think that’s crazy! If people don’t recharge their energy in their personal life, they will have less energy in their professional life.

Life is too short. I encourage you to evaluate possible areas of self-and/or life improvement.

Now is the time to think and reflect:

  1. Do you enjoy your job? Maybe you have a newfound level of appreciation for the work you do. If not, evaluate your options – change your perspective or change the job.
  2. Do you feel good about your life? If yes, then I will applaud you. If not, what are you doing about it? Take action or change the way you look at your life.
  3. What is one area in your life (family and home, social and friends, fun and recreation, work and finances, physical and health, mental and self-development, spiritual and ethical) that you could improve? Set a goal, make a plan, follow the plan.
  4. What will it take to make yourself the next improvement project?

Guilt doesn’t help. Having a strategy and a plan does.

Strive for progress, not perfection!
