Manufacturing Training Lessons Failure

I know so many people who are afraid of failure.

They are so afraid, in fact, that they don’t even get started. That’s how people fall into a rut and stay there, unable to tap into their potential to get things done.

Would you like to know a huge mental game-changer?

THERE IS NO FAILURE, ONLY FEEDBACK.

This means the results in your personal and in your professional life provide feedback about what works and what doesn’t.

This insight comes from NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programing) and it is just such an incredible way to reframe the concept of failure. Reframing involves putting a word, situation, or person in a “new frame,” which means shining a different light on it or looking at it from a fresh perspective.

In the manufacturing industry, the words “fail” and “failure” are often overused. If you’re not achieving the results you want, it’s time to try something different.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What emotional impact does the word “failure” have?
  • Who wants to feel like a failure?
  • Doesn’t failure mean that we’ve stopped trying?
  • If people are afraid to fail, how can they be creative and innovative?

Seeking feedback is empowering. Talking about failure? Not so much.

Here are 3 things to consider when embracing the feedback mindset:

1. Shift Your Perspective:

If you’re not getting the results you expected, change your approach or the way you look at the situation.

2. Put People First:

Resistance from a person or team often signals a lack of human connection (or rapport). Focus on building that connection.

3. Learn the Lesson:

Take the time to figure out what’s missing to reach the next level. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself repeating the same mistakes. Put simply: If you don’t pass the test, you’ll repeat the lesson.

Repeat after me:

“There is no Failure. There is only Feedback.”

Yes! You’re getting closer. Keep going!

Food for Thought:

How do you take responsibility when things go wrong? Do you make sure to learn something from it?
