Manufacture Your Day by OVERCOMING SELF-DOUBT
Self-doubt is one of the biggest “dream killers” that I am aware of.
How are you doing when it comes to self-doubt?
What story do you tell yourself about yourself?
Henry Ford used to say, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”.
I think Ford knew what he was talking about. Believing in your abilities is powerful.
Isn’t it true that there are times when self-doubt seems to take over?
There are so many people who think that they aren’t good enough.
Let me tell you at the end of this week that you are enough of everything.
It is unfortunate but so many people get criticized and belittled on a daily basis. This leads them to think that they don’t have much to offer.
Every person (yes, every person) has the ability to become more if they get encouraged and develop a growth mindset.
Today I would like to share a story about the Conditioned Elephant with you. The author is unknown but the message is worth sharing.
“As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to getaway. “Well,” the trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.”
