I have always lived by the philosophy “love it, leave it or change it”. Later in life, I added, “If I can’t change something, I change my perspective.” This has served me well.
Here is the thing…..
YOU deserve to be happy and I would like to show you how to get there.
If your blueprint (the story you tell yourself about your job) doesn’t match your life conditions (how you experience your daily reality), you become unhappy and dissatisfied. Bummer!
The cool thing is that you have choices. You can either change your blueprint (perception / the way you look at your job) or you can take action to change your life conditions (leave your current job and find a new one inside or outside of your organization; start your own business; change industries; change the profession).
If you do nothing, you will end up in the negative land of “W” – wishing, whining and wasting everyone’s time. This would be a lose-lose situation for the company and for you.
Many, many years ago when I still lived in Austria I worked in a bank. Some of my coworkers complained back then and guess where they work now – 25 years later? That’s right, they are still busy complaining. Who wants to live life like this? Life is too short to be unhappy.
If you decide to love your job, don’t wait another minute:
Make the decision to stop complaining and start to see positive aspects of your job;
Take the time to discover your strengths and think about how YOU can make your job special – what makes you feel “alive”?
Speak to your coworkers and learn to understand their challenges and possible ways of how you can help and support;
Figure out what you want – if you don’t know what you want, how can you get there?
Schedule a meeting with your boss and explain what would make your job more fulfilling and introduce a plan on how to make it happen;
Set boundaries in your life – what is most important to you (values such as family, career, money, friends and fun, relationships); learn to say no; do you have a list of priorities for your personal life?
Learn more skills – take new courses, read more books, watch more educational videos to enhance your current skills;
Be grateful for what you have – what is good about your current job (i.e. short commute, great co-workers, freedom of how to do your work);
Good things happen to people who have the ability to make the best of every situation. This is called personal change management.
When you love life, you will love everything that comes with it—including your job.
