Have I told you how much I respect you and the work you do every day?

I see the tremendous pressure manufacturing employees face. For some, the fear and stress can feel overwhelming – especially if they don’t have the right tools to handle it. Let me share a conversation I had recently.

Someone said to me, “Karin, I have absolutely no idea how to lead my team through these times. I feel like an impostor, and I’m afraid I’ll lose my job. We have countless virtual and in-person meetings, but I feel totally out of control and have lost my ability to sleep at night.”

Unfortunately, he’s not alone.

Many employees lack the tools and strategies to handle the daily demands of both their professional and personal lives.

Here’s how to take control of your emotional state:

Become aware of how you feel. If you feel bad, it’s because you’re focusing on the wrong things.
Surround yourself with positive people. Avoid drama and energy vampires—constant complainers will drag you down. Optimism is more important than ever.
Stay calm and look for the positives. Panicking has never solved anything. There are always opportunities if you look for them.
Focus on what you can control. You may not control how long this situation lasts, but you can control how you respond to it. Your mind can either work for you or against you. If you don’t stop negative thoughts, they will take over.

Think negatively, you’ll feel bad.
Feel bad, you won’t be productive.
Lose productivity, you’ll feel stressed and fearful.
Feel stressed and fearful, your mental and physical health will suffer.It’s a vicious cycle—and it all starts with your thoughts.

Can you see why it’s so important to take control of your mindset?

Make time to practice a more positive way of thinking. It takes effort and willingness, but the time to start is now. Go for it!
