Did you know that most people know what they don’t like, don’t want and don’t have?
Very few people know what they want and where they want to be, and even fewer know how to communicate direction in a clear and understandable way to others.
Just take a moment to think and reflect.
In your work environment, is the pressure to produce numbers high, the speed fast and the tolerance for mistakes low?
If this is the case, it is only a matter of time before quality will suffer, health and safety issues will increase, turnover and absenteeism will become a concern, not even to speak about the increased levels of stress, frustration and negativity.
I have seen it over and over again. People are speeding on the highway to nowhere. Make sure that you’re not one of them.
If you are one of the bosses, make sure that you are crystal clear when you share your vision and when you communicate direction. It’s all about how you make others “see” where you are going so that they can follow your lead. Ask your team, “Can you repeat what I want you to do? I just want to make sure that I explained it well enough.”
If you are one of the employees, never be shy to ask if the direction isn’t clear. “Can I just clarify with you if I understood you correctly?”
Clarity is where it starts. If people are not clear about where they are going, how can they get there?
