Manufacture Your Day by KNOWING WHAT YOU STAND FOR
Did you know that our values influence our thoughts, words and actions?
What are your values? Every person should have at least 5 values that are non-negotiable.
The next question is… Do you believe that you deserve to live by your values?
A while ago someone said to me, “Karin, this is easy for you to say because you’re self-employed. If I tell my supervisor that we shouldn’t ship the parts because they are out of spec, I could literally lose my job. I know that it isn’t right and that we shouldn’t do it, yet we still do and hope the customer won’t find out.”
So much about integrity, trust and people feeling safe in their jobs.
I repeat my previous question again…. Do you believe that YOU deserve to live by your values?
I think we all do but most people are afraid and they feel so trapped in jobs they don’t really like (obligations to family, mortgage, consumer debt, etc) that they rather compromise their values than exploring other options.
Most people never think about their values. Over time they have become so disconnected from what was once important to them that they feel they just have to be obedient and do what they are told to do.
On the other hand, many companies have values on the wall BUT often they don’t walk down the hall.
If one of the values is “respect” and top executives are allowed to raise their voice in meetings and/or undermine their reports, all the “core values talk” becomes meaningless to the employees.
Before you leave, I would like to share Karico’s Core Values with you to give you a few examples how a set of values can look like:
SELF-ACTUALIZATION
There is no destination. We truly enjoy the journey of becoming a little bit better each day and having fun while doing it.
PASSION
Nothing great has ever been accomplished without passion.
INTEGRITY
Our commitment is to “Be consistent. Be honest. Be truthful to ourselves and others.”
COURAGE
Taking calculated risks and stepping out of the comfort zone is a state of mind.
EXCELLENCE
Striving to deliver the best, work with the best and be the best is not a skill. It’s our attitude.
Always remember that your values will guide you to make better decisions in and for your life.
