Manufacture Your Day by GETTING A REALITY CHECK
Did I get your attention?
As someone who has experienced this, I can only say that there is always a door that opens after another one closes BUT we cannot overlook our personal development as an important part of the process. As a business owner I had to develop a very different skill set than I needed to have as a HR Assistant.
Do you get my point?
KEY (=Keep Educating Yourself) is:
- See self-development as an opportunity to get and stay at the top of your game after a promotion or significant life change.
When I work with coaching clients, they often just want to get that promotion and/or the title. As soon as they get it, they think they have “arrived”. John C. Maxwell likes to call it “Destination Disease”.
There is nothing wrong with setting this kind of goals as long the people don’t become legends in their own mind. My question is always the same, “Who do you have to become as a person to be truly successful in this position?”
Many times people don’t get it.
Their ego asks for more, more, more but that’s exactly what happens when they are confronted with the so-called Peter Principle.
People get promoted because of their good work in their previous job. However, often it is not considered what skill set is needed for the new job. The higher you go, the less hands on you have to be. For example, a really good CEO has to be focused on vision, leadership, company growth, strategy, communication, positivity, mental strength, emotional control and effective stress management.
What do I want you to remember?
1. Shit happens everywhere – just different shit
People often try to escape a current situation. They change spouses, they change from one company to the next, they want a different boss, they change houses, and they may even change the country or the continent.
So be it. If their partners always tend to be bad, they always get that terrible boss, or they can never get along with anyone, who is the common denominator?
The grass is always greener on the other side and you have to grow as a person to get to the next level.
2. Make your mind work in your favour – self-development is a must
Let’s assume an Operations Manager receives the amazing opportunity to become the CEO of a company. If he/she wold like to be a successful CEO , he/she has to make sure to work on developing different skills. The same is true for habits and mindset.
3. Human connection – relationships are a critical part of the process
If you know how to build meaningful relationships, life becomes not only more enjoyable but also more productive.
If you work at it, you will make it work for you. Are you ready to rock’n roll?
