Manufacture Your Day by GETTING A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON PEOPLE’S RESPONSES

Lately, I have started to observe how many people take responses from others deeply personally.
Of course, nobody likes to be …
- treated rudely.
- snapped at.
- bullied.
- ignored.
- blamed.
- criticized.
- belittled.
If we have to deal with this kind of behaviour, we can often feel offended, frustrated, angry or even fearful.
Would you like to receive a different perspective?
If a manager displays this kind of behaviour, it may be that he/she…
- thinks that he/she has earned the right to behave like that.
- had poor role models along the way.
- is on a power trip.
- feels better by making someone else feel worse.
- has a lack of communication and leadership skills.
- feels insecure.
- doesn’t know how to control his / her emotional response.
- doesn’t have proper stress management techniques in place.
Please consider it as a given that this will hurt the business results.
If an employee displays this kind of behaviour, it may be that he/she…
- doesn’t feel he/she has a voice.
- rarely (or never) receives constructive feedback.
- doesn’t have the opportunity to learn and grow.
- can display a bad attitude and negative behaviour without being held accountable.
- has never learned different response techniques.
- doesn’t receive appreciation and recognition.
- is starved for a good dialogue with his / her manager.
- doesn’t know how to handle stress.
Please consider it as a given that this will hurt the business results.
The worst behaviour in an organization is there because it is accepted and nobody does anything about it.
However, it is also important to understand that a person’s behaviour is a reflection of their thought process and their inner world.
If we are stressed, we become different people.
I encourage you to be patient, empathetic, forgiving and helpful to the people around you.
If people don’t learn to become better at dealing with certain circumstances in their personal and professional lives, it will affect their emotional and mental health. This is a matter of cause (action) and effect (outcome).
It is so important to keep this in mind.
Food for Thought:
If you don’t like what you see in your outer world, it is a reflection of your inner world.
