Manufacture Your Day by EXEMPLIFYING PROFESSIONALISM
Every business should have a vested interest to teach their employees about the impact of professionalism.
I think it is very powerful to educate regularly about internal and external customer service.
The way you think, speak and act demonstrates how well you do your job, and it definitely has an impact on business results and reputation.
I have always believed in doing more for my customers than they expect.
For me, it is important to “wow” my customers, provide inspiration, education and an exceptional follow-up process.
I can still remember the time when the cheque of one of my big customers bounced. This was in my early days of my business venture and the cheque was “only” issued for $ 5,000. As a results all my payments were returned and I had to pay a fee because there wasn’t enough money on my account.
I haven’t forgotten the response of the accounts payable guy, “If you make such a big deal about $ 5,000, you may as well pack it in and stop doing what you’re doing.”
Mistakes happen but instead of apologizing and treating me with respect, he blamed his own shortcomings on me.
Today I know that his response had absolutely nothing to do with me but with his own anger and frustrations.
Every employee should be aware that they put a signature of their own attitude and mindset on every job they’re doing. This is the reason why I would like to encourage you to think about the following 3 questions:
1. How do I interact with others?
It doesn’t matter if it is in your personal or in your professional life, do you think you are a person of influence and do you lead by example?
2. How do I make sure to exemplify professionalism?
- Appropriate dress code (who says you shouldn’t look clean and polished when you work in a manufacturing company)
- Friendly and respectful behaviour
- Specialized knowledge
- Good moral and ethical standards
- Great phone and email etiquette
- Accountability and ownership
- Emotional control
- Confident, yet humble
- Leading by example
- Interested in personal and professional growth
- Positive mental attitude
- Growth mindset
2. How do I go above and beyond in my personal and in my professional life?
Are you at risk of living a mediocre life because you have lost your desire to become more and be better at what you do? How do you stay current in a constantly changing world? Do you stand out or do you try to fit in?
In a world where people have to do more with less, we have lost sight of being exceptional human beings.
Here is to you and the power of your professionalism.
