Manufacture Your Day by DISCOVERING THE 7 STEPS TO HAPPINESS
Money doesn’t buy happiness. We all know that but it has been said that everyone would like to find out for themselves.
I think many people start to realize during this time of physical isolation that the things we miss most are not material things. At least this is true for me.
I think that the majority of people strive to be happy but very few realize that happiness is a choice and it takes work. Sometimes it is hard work.
The easiest way to happiness is “personal growth” and “contribution to others”.
I always tell people, “If you don’t work on getting better to handle life’s challenges, you will end up being bitter about life’s challenges.”
Take a look at the following story that a friend forwarded to me on Facebook. The author is unknown but I liked it and decided to share it with you:
“A teacher brought balloons to school and asked the children to blow them all up and then each write their names on their balloon. They tossed all the balloons into the hall while the teacher mixed them from one end to the other. The teacher then gave them 5 minutes to find the balloon with their name on it. The children ran around, looking frantically but as the time ran out – nobody had found their own balloon…
Then the teacher told them to take the balloon closest to them and give it to the person who’s name was on it. In less than 2 minutes everyone had their own balloon.
Finally the teacher said, “Balloons are like happiness. No one will find it looking for theirs only. Instead if everyone cares about each others they will find theirs as quickly as possible.”
Nice story, isn’t it?
I don’t know about you but there are times when I don’t like myself and I don’t like my progress. Happiness seems out of reach. These are the times when I need a mental strategy to “snap out of it”.
So what do I do to bounce back?
- When I feel bad, I know that I pay attention to the wrong things.
- I identify the emotion and ask myself if I want to feel this way? The answer is usually “no” and I decide how I want to feel.
- In order to shift my focus I start writing down what I can be grateful for. Gratefulness helps me to shift my emotional state fast.
- I go through these 7 steps of happiness – what an amazing reminder to be mindful and present.
- It is impossible to feel grateful and grumpy at the same time.
If you have a mental strategy, you will be in charge of your emotional state. Is it worth it to give this a whirl?
