Manufacture Your Day by DEMONSTRATING COMMITMENT
The dictionary says that commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.
The people who follow me for a while may know that I have been very committed to serving the people in the manufacturing industry.
It hasn’t been an easy journey.
When I was one of the employees who were ‘restructured’ at the end of 2006, Magna hired the outplacement company Knightsbridge, and I took advantage of their services. I won’t forget that one of their employees told me, “You want to start your own business? How? Your English isn’t very good, and three years in Canada is not enough Canadian experience. Don’t you know that four out of five businesses fail?”
No, I didn’t know and I answered, “I guess I have to be the fifth business that makes it.”
After I started my business in 2007 a fellow small business owner said to me, “Really, you want to be a trainer and a corporate coach for manufacturing companies in the Toronto area? Good luck. I assure you the manufacturing industry is dying.”
However, if you can make it here, I suppose you can make it anywhere in the world.
After “surviving” 5 years in business my vision turned into serving the manufacturing industry internationally. That’s when a “business advisor” told me, “You think you can be an international trainer and coach? You cannot even get enough clients to grow your business in your own backyard.”
After 18 years in business (with international clients) I would say that commitment, persistence, and determination are good attributes to have.
In my personal and professional life, I always make sure to get positive and long-lasting results.
My two cents for what it’s worth: Surround yourself with people who believe in you, support you, and encourage you, and forget all the naysayers.
