Manufacture Your Day by CHOOSING TO BE OPTIMISTIC

It’s Wednesday and it’s time for “Manufacturing Leadership Minute” with Karin.

I feel it is so important to remind myself and others about the power of optimism, and how to think and speak. Seriously, optimism has gotten me through some pretty difficult times in my life.
How would you benefit emotionally and mentally if you treated your daily challenges as a dance rather than a disaster?
Nobody would have expected a few years weeks ago how much our personal and professional lives would be going to change due to Covid-19.
- Manufacturing companies and all other businesses were forced to make fast and dramatic changes.
- Restaurants, malls, stores, gyms, yoga studios (and the list goes on) had to close their doors and find new ways of doing things.
- Many people had to start working from home.
- People who had no former interest in outdoor activities had a choice to make: either learn a new way of being or live in isolation at home.
- Social distance was a must for anyone who didn’t live in the same house.
- Toilet paper and hand sanitizers sold out.
- People had to stand in line to get into a grocery store.
- Stock markets crashed.
Uncertainty was (and still is in so many ways) in the air and mental fitness has become more critical than ever. Unfortunately, the majority of people don’t have the tools and response techniques to deal with uncertainty.
Mindset and a positive mental attitude are crucial during challenging times. This is an important part of the process of moving forward rather than getting stuck.
- Shift your perspective: How can you find the good in the bad?
- Innovation: Many people tend to wait and others will innovate. Which one will your team be?
Most people in the manufacturing industry enjoy solving problems – it’s part of the excitement and a key reason why they chose a career in manufacturing.
The current challenges in the world can be scary and often lead to anxiety for many.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Stay calm: The only way you will manage to do that is by being present and actively controlling your thought process (worrying about the future won’t help and will feed the anxious mind).
- Focus on “bringing people together” as a team of problem solvers: Allow them to be an important part of the solution.
- Focus on what you can control: Worrying about what’s outside of your control has never solved anything.
In order to tap into a resourceful and creative thought process, people have to be in the right frame of mind.
Instead of laying off people and stopping leadership development, find more creative ways of saving money. The leaders in companies who will have the courage to do things differently will be ahead of the game.
This is a wonderful opportunity for manufacturing companies to plan for a better tomorrow instead of fighting fires every single day.
Optimists always look for the best in any given situation.
If you start doing this, you will notice a huge difference in your overall life experience.
Optimism is a choice. Remember, energy flows where attention goes.
