Manufacture Your Day by BEING PROACTIVE RATHER THAN REACTIVE

 In Manufacture Your Day

Manufacturing Leadership Be Proactive

A while ago I wrote about delegation and in order to become a master delegator, you have to learn to be proactive by planning for a better tomorrow.

If you don’t, you have to relive the same day over and over again until you learn the lesson, just like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.

You have to find a way to turn a situation to your advantage by finding a different way of looking at the situation.

Would you like to know what puts you immediately into reactive mode?

If you start your day by reading emails, you risk that your day gets a dynamic of its own.

You may think something along these lines, “Karin, that’s easy for you to say. You are not doing my job and you have no idea what craziness we go through on a daily basis.”

Did I just read your mind?

Here is a simple principle:

If your outer world seems out of control, it is best to take control of your inner world.

One of my favourite books is a book that everyone should read. Viktor E. Frankl,  an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist, and a Holocaust survivor wrote the book “Man’s Search for Meaning”. If you haven’t read it, I invite you to check it out.

In his book he wrote:

Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.”

In other words, every situation gives us the chance to think and respond to make it better. When we react (fire fighting) it may be o.k. for the moment but it is highly stressful and doesn’t provide a long-term solution.

When we are reactive, we operate from our emotional mind and not from our intelligent mind.

It is always good to remember:

When emotions are high, intelligence is low.

A great way to get started is to make the decision to start doing things differently. It is as simple as that.

I am rooting for you.

Food for Thought:

What is your morning routine? If you have a great one (doesn’t involve email), you are set for a great day.
