Manufacture Your Day by BEING A “GIVER” RATHER THAN A “TAKER”

 In Manufacture Your Day

Manufacturing Leadership - Giver Or Taker?

Have you ever met people who can call you 10 times a day when they need something or when they need someone who listens to them BUT when you need something they are “too busy” to respond?

I think we have all been there. There are Takers, Givers and Matchers in our world.

Takers are people who have no problem taking your…

  • positive energy
  • time
  • knowledge
  • skill
  • creativity
  • advice
  • money

whenever they need it. They tend to act out of self-interest and rarely think about how to help and serve others.

We all can be givers and takers and it has been proven that the ones who can generously give will also receive.

I have always been a person who likes to give to others. It doesn’t matter if it is time, support, or advice, I truly enjoy helping others. However, I have also come to realize that if I don’t set my boundaries, there will always be people who have no limits. They are shameless when it comes to asking for free advice.

“Karin, can I pick your brain” is just one example that I must have heard countless times.

Like I said earlier, I like to help when I can but there have been times when I wonder why so many people don’t even bother to think how they can help others by asking, “What is one of your current challenges? Is there anything I can do to help you?”

After watching the video “Are You a Giver or a Taker?” by Adam Grant I came to the realization that I am truly a giver. However, I am also more aware of how to spot the takers, and I want you to do the same.

Give as long as it makes you happy and set your boundaries when you have to. That’s what it is all about.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

What do you think? Based on Adam Grant’s description, are you a giver, taker, or matcher?
