Manufacture Your Day by SHIFTING YOUR FOCUS

We have Labour Day in Canada and the US today. Labour Day is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. 

I just returned from my European vacation and it is always interesting for me to observe the biggest difference between North America and Europe. 

Europeans work to live and North Americans live to work. 

If you have followed me for a while, you may already know that I am a big promoter of creating a better personal and professional life experience by shifting your perspective and your focus. 

Whenever I start working with a new client I ask how he/she deals with the daily, often unavoidable stressors. Some of them tell me alcohol (a few drinks after work), coffee and cigarettes or pills (i.e. anxiety, depression). 

When you are stressed you should avoid alcohol, coffee and nicotine but naturally that’s what people turn to because they have made it a self-sabotaging habit. 

What can you do instead?

  • Go for a long walk or do some other physical activity (in your break or during lunch time)
  • Breathe deeply (without a cigarette in your hand)
  • Have a good conversation with someone (in person and without whining and complaining)

For my Canadian and American friends, I hope you enjoy this long weekend with family and friends somewhere outdoors.
