There are days when we deal with situations and life circumstances that seem to make life very difficult for us. 

If we are not careful, this can drag us into a mental rut. 

I want you to know that you can always be in control of your life. 

Life isn’t always easy, and the best thing you can do is to learn to deal with it. 

Here are the most important decisions that you make on a daily basis: 

  1. What do you focus on? – within your control or outside of your control; on the positive or on the negative; end or beginning; laughter or pain; good people or rude ones; sunshine or rain; problems or solutions; love or anger; – and the list goes on and on but I am sure you get my point;
  2. What meaning do you assign to a situation? What story do you tell yourself about it? Do you do your best to switch your thought pattern into a more constructive one?
  3. How do you want to feel? Depending on your answer to point 1 and 2, you will either have a positive or a negative emotional response – in simple terms, you will either feel good or bad. This is a personal choice based on what you give your attention to.

Hollywood is a great example. There are people who earn more than enough money but some of them have never learned how to control their emotional response, and that’s when they turn to alcohol and drugs. 

What will it take to control your emotional response? The willingness to learn and to practise. Remember, what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.  

Make the decision that you can and you will. Why would assign other people so much power over your life? 

Being aware is the first step in the process. Practising is step two.
